Dale Thorn Interview: (Interviewed by Rory Carlberg 10/31/03)

Rory: name, age, sex, and favorite brand of toilet paper

Dale: Dale, 15, a guy, and poison oak leaves.

Rory: hahah nice... sorry but we needed a classic opener

Dale: its cool

Rory: so the NAR crew finished work on 'Something Else' about a month ago, what did you think of it when you finally saw it?

Dale: I thought the video was awesome. I was blown away how good it was. I thought that was awesome. I cant wait till' the next one.

Rory: How did you think your part came out? Good, bad, better then expected, worse than expected?

Dale: I thought it was alright. I think I'll always say that but yea it was ok. The next video i want really good tricks for every trick.

Rory: OK... that's all... a lot of the guys said your part surprised them, I mean how good it was... was there anyone's part that really surprised you

Dale: Yea, everyones. When I saw each part I was like "oh my god!" dude I shouldn't have had the last part.

Rory: Dude... dale your part was fucking awesome and everyone knows you deserved it... you worked hard. Next vid it can go to someone else, but Something Else was a vid that featured your part last and it rocked. Anyway back to ?'s.

In the credits, you thanked GOD... are you religious, if so then to what extent... you know church and stuff?

Dale: Yea Im religious. I don't exploit it, but I am. I go to church once a while. I'm Christian. I think that there is a purpose for everything that happens. He is the reason I got to the point where I am.

Rory: Good answer... I think God is a big part of a lot of people's lives, and I think life has to be better knowing that there is someone there. How do you feel about where you are in skateboarding right now... anything you want to improve on a lot?

Dale: I'm feeling great on how things are going. I'm feeling pretty consistent on a bunch of tricks. I like knowing I can do hard tricks but I feel better knowing I'm pretty consistent. The only thing i wish is that i could skate more spots with stairs

Rory: I see... traveling will have to become a priority

Dale: Yea

Rory: So coming off your last video part you're feeling pretty good, what do you hope to achieve in your next part?

Dale: Going bigger and getting more technical

Rory: Sounds good, have you started filming for your next part at all yet?

Dale: I don't know if we are filming for a video or not. I'm pretty sure we're not, but I'm getting footage already.

Rory: sounds good, how are your skate spots looking right now, you know The Riv is not dead anymore...

Dale: I'm happy I have skatespots to skate. In some towns there are no places to skate. The Riv. might be dead though for sure in a while. There are some dumb s***s out there who just love to mess it up for the good guys.

Rory: Damn... time for some word association

Dale: Whats that?

Rory: I say something and you say the first word that comes to mind.

Dale: Ok, awesome to the max

Rory: good job...

Rory: So a few weekends ago the NAR crew went to SF... how was the trip?

Dale: IT WAS AWESOME

Dale: I had a great time. Got some footy while i was there too.

Rory: Yea, so is the tour video going to come out of that?

Dale: I am pretty sure I have to ask will about that.

Dale: I gave him my camera tape a day ago so i think he's goin to make it soon

Dale: if he is making it.

Rory: That thing would be packed full of some good skatin and other random shit...

Dale: Yea it would be.

Rory: What did you think of our hotel in sf?

Dale: I was speechless when I saw it.

Rory: What would be the one place you would like to live at if you could leave k-ville?

Dale: Probably the turlock/modesto/sacramento/orange county

Rory: wow, way to describe ONE place... what is your biggest dream right now?

Dale: Get good at skating and hopefully someday soon become an amateur skateboarder.

Rory: That leads to my next question... Lionell Roca just got signed to Adrenalin Skateboards as an Am and got his first ad in the latest issue of Thrasher, when do you think the time will come when you will feel good about sending some footy into some companies larger than shops?

Dale: When my friends say I should. I honestly think I'm not that good at all. When my friends say I should then I will.

Rory: Well you are improving fast and you're pretty good to begin with... which one of the NAR guys will be sponsored 1st by a company larger than a shop?

Dale: Probably john because he knows a lot of people....... and because he kills it

Rory: Rainy season is coming up... what will you be doing when it is impossible to go out and skate?

Dale: Go to johns and skate the barn. If not that, then carpet skating

Rory: Sounds like a plan, what big events do you see happening in the near future?

Dale: Going to more spots. We're almost old enough to get our license

Rory: I'm getting mine in late December... when you gettin yours?

Dale: I have to take my drivers training. I think Im taking it in like a week. I'll get my hours done hopefully in 5 months.

Rory: Nice... then you can drive to some stairs.

Dale: Yea definitely.

Dale: Go to some big stairs.

Rory: Yea definitely.

Rory: Is there anything else you wanted to get off your chest in this interview?

Dale: I got to thank you rore for all that you have done for us guys. Thanks so much for being there.

Rory: That's cool... thanks for acknowledging... if I couldn't skate with you guys once in a while... skating could be done for me...

Rory: Is there anything you want to say to the kids who will one day watch something else and admire your part?

Dale: hahahahhahahaha to all the kids who watch it.... you can do better.

Rory: hahahahah... Modesty, your finest quality... thanks for the words of wisdom Dale Thorn.

Dale: Sure thing boss.
